Is This the End of Extreme Couponing at Victoria’s Secret?

Is This the End of Extreme Couponing at Victoria’s Secret?

Back in April, Victoria’s Secret announced that it would no longer sell swimwear and that it would no longer distribute catalogs or mail-out coupons. Those are two of the major changes VS would be making in the light of its switch in leadership which occurred last February, when CEO Sharen Turney stepped down and the former CEO and current head of L Brands (owner of VS), Les Wexner, took over. Their focus now would be in 3 major categories – bras, activewear and beauty, and their marketing would be mainly digital. In response to this news, social media has been going nuts with rumors and speculation as to what exactly this means for VS’ loyal fanbase, and more specifically the couponing community.

As of this writing, a quick search on Instagram for #victoriassecret yields just under 3 million posts, and that’s not including searches of its spin-off tags, #vspink or #pinknation, that also pull up hundreds of thousands of posts each. Any VS or VS Pink fanatic worth her weight in panties regularly checks these posts, and the Facebook pages of VS and the growing number of VS fan groups, as well as Twitter. These posts and pages offer the best VS hacks and are couponing gold. You can get the best tips for shopping the semi-annual sale (SAS), like buy early and then save your receipts to get a price adjustment when the prices drop 2-3 weeks later because THE PRICES ALWAYS GO LOWER. The best tip is, usually after a month into the SAS, all bras and sleepwear drop to $14.99! That’s often times better than their outlet prices!

VS Semi-Annual Sale!

VS Semi-Annual Sale!

You learn quickly that it’s important to sign up for the VS mailing list to gain access to VS coupons, promos and offers. Some truly enterprising couponers have figured out how to sign up under multiple accounts (maybe recruit your mom, sister and husband too!) so they receive multiple coupons, like the coveted $10 or $15 birthday coupons (or HBD), which they in turn sell or swap on Instagram. Same goes for VS Secret Reward Cards, which many mail out for (no purchase necessary) and then turn around and sell/swap. It’s a win/win because buyers can score hauls worth $100’s in merchandise for a fraction of the cost by buying these discounted coupons and using them during optimal promotion periods. More tips on social media steer shoppers to the “less strict” stores that allow you to stack multiple coupons or combine promos, when the fine print says stacking and combining of offers are not allowed. We learned on Instagram that “YMMV” means “Your Mileage May Vary” from store to store.

Free panty just for downloading the Pink app!

Free panty just for downloading the Pink app!

Some times you don’t need to spend a penny at VS to score something because even the freebies and promos VS offers are money-makers, and we don’t just mean the free panty coupons. Last February during Superbowl weekend, you could get a FREE, limited edition pink mini VS football just for trying on a sport bra, and yep, these little footballs were selling like hotcakes on Instagram and Mercari, a beta shopping app. Last April, VS offered “Mystery Game” pieces with no purchase necessary. You just had to go to a participating store and ask for it, and you would win either a panty, perfume mist, bra or sport pant. Absolutely NO PURCHASE NECESSARY and you would get FREE stuff! Earlier this month, which happens to be “Bombshell” month (named after VS’ top-selling fragrance), VS partnered with Quikly to do a series of weekly giveaways all month long. The finale giveaway was for a FREE bottle of VS’ limited edition Bombshell “Lux Eau De Parfum”, which comes covered in Swarovski crystals and encased in a glossy, black lacquer box with lock and key, retail $250.

All that is just a sampling of the promotions and giveaways that seem to go on almost weekly year-round at VS stores, or it was. With all recent the changes, there’s a fear that VS will be doing away with all these generous freebies and discounts. It’s not surprising though, as VS has since laid off about 200 employees and these promotions and giveaways cost the company millions. So what exactly does this mean for VS and its ever-growing population of addicts and couponers alike? Only time and social media will tell.

CHANEL Hearts LA with “I Love Coco” Backstage Beauty Lounge at Bar Marmont!

CHANEL Hearts LA with “I Love Coco” Backstage Beauty Lounge at Bar Marmont!

It was about this time last year that Louis Vuitton brought its Series 2 exhibit to Los Angeles (read our review of that here), and just a couple weeks ago Saint Laurent held its Fall 2016 fashion show at the Palladium in Hollywood. And now, during Oscars weekend, Chanel too has come to LA, setting up its “I Love Coco” slash “Coco Loves LA” Backstage Beauty Lounge at Bar Marmont on Sunset Blvd.

For the last 4 days, Chanel did not hold back, taking up the entire venue and bringing us manicures, lip treatments, photo booth, temporary tattoos, free valet, and “mocktails”, with a setting so elaborate that every inch of the place was totally Instragram-able. There was even opportunity to get your manicure photographed like a Chanel ad, which was instantly emailed to you. Also, they won us over with the FREEBIES, event posters and button pins free for the taking. It was like being in Wonderland but Chanel. It was the best 2 hours we’d spent in a long time.

We really hope this encourages other big design houses to come to our town and hold similar parties. Do you hear us, Dior? Hermes? Coach? Celine?

Victoria’s Secret Giving Out FREE Mini Footballs for Superbowl / Valentines Day Promotion!

Victoria’s Secret Giving Out FREE Mini Footballs for Superbowl / Valentines Day Promotion!

So what’s more American than football and lingerie? Well, on this very special Superbowl weekend, those two worlds collide as the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers duke it out for winner of Superbowl 50 and Victoria’s Secret gets its game on (see what we did there?) with all kinds of in-store and online promotions for its #scoremore weekend. Of course, this includes a very cheeky TV advert during the big game. Also, Superbowl happens to fall exactly 1 week before Valentine’s Day, so VS was smart to cash in on this commercial eclipse now.

Even if you’re totally broke and just can’t buy another bra or thong, starting today, select Victoria’s Secret stores are giving away (yes,  FOR FREE) a highly collectible, mini pink football just for trying on a sport bra (any sport bra) and there’s no obligation to buy! Other promotions include:

  • 30% off a single full-priced Sport bra
  • FREE reward card (in stores only)
  • $15 Reward Card with $75 purchase
  • $20 Reward Card with $150 purchase
  • $6 BBV Panty (in stores only)
  • Free ship with $50 purchase (online only)
  • $39 long-sleeve knit PJ (online only)
  • Free pink mini football with Sport bra try-on

The free football is only offered at select stores within the U.S. until tomorrow, and only while supplies last. For Los Angelenos, this includes the Beverly Center, Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Westfield Culver City and Burbank Media Center. For a complete list of stores, check out Victoria’s Secret official Facebook page.

StyleCon 2015 Comes to The Hangar at OC Fair!

StyleCon 2015 Comes to The Hangar at OC Fair!

StyleCon is a one-day ticketed event where fashion and beauty collide. We were invited to attend this year’s event, happening at the Hangar OC Fair & Event Center yesterday, Nov 7. The 6-hour day was jam-packed with beauty booths, braid bars, pop-up shops, panelists and giveaways, plus appearances by Miss California (Natasha Martinez), Miss Teen California (Melanie Mitchell) and Tess Holliday (the plus size model featured in Vogue Italia, People Magazine and LA Weekly). Also, for you 80’s fans out there, Cambrie Schroeder (daughter of Silver Spoons actor Ricky Schroeder) performed with her dance team.

There were plenty of beauty and retail stations spread throughout the venue.  Among them, Glam Squad gave complimentary make-up applications and Blushington offered “blush ups” throughout the day. Jaunt Beauty Co offered free manicures in their decked-out VW van, and Ardell had a lash application booth.  Also, Topshop and Sleek Hair Beauty had pop-up shops. Other sponsors and exhibitors included Blowtique, Crocs, Sinful Eyewear, Skin Laundry, Skinny Pop Popcorn, Honest Tea, Vita Coco, and Luella Boutique (where we think we spotted Lynn Curtin, a former Real Housewife of the OC).

Attendees were a mix of fashion and beauty stylists, retailers, social media stars and fashion and beauty fans from all walks of life. It was a fun-filled day for all! For more info on StyleCon, click here.

Louis Vuitton Series 2 Exhibit Hits LA with FREE Stickers & Posters!

Louis Vuitton Series 2 Exhibit Hits LA with FREE Stickers & Posters!

We are loving all the attention Los Angeles has been receiving lately for FASHION, and not just for, you know, the celebrities and weather etc. LA’s latest triumph comes in the form of a high-falluting, high-tech exhibit from Louis Vuitton, entitled “Series 2”, which provides a futuristic idea of what fashion shows will be like soon enough. The exhibit presents a maze-like experience via a series of rooms, using hologram and 3D technology. Also, Los Angeles is Series 2’s ONLY U.S. stop. Once they pack it up, it’s headed to Beijing next.

We went last Saturday first thing in the morning and we can’t wait to go back again. There aren’t enough words to adequately describe it, so check out our photo journal below. However, you definitely have to go for yourself. If you’re still not convinced, go for the FREE cool stickers and posters.  Series 2 is located at 1135 N. Highland Blvd, Hollywood (at Lexington, across the street from James Perse). FREE admission to the general public until February 22, 2015, every day from 10AM-6PM. Street parking available.
